SFL in Solomon Islands: A Framework for Improving Literacy Practices in Primary School

Assessing and reforming classroom literacy has become a preoccupation of nations worldwide, not the least in Pacific where countries are often working toward English within multilingual contexts. In Solomon Islands, 2013, poor results regional local testing precipitated review how language was taught primary schools across this nation. subsequent reform materials associated training for teachers, principled approach taken using Systemic Functional Linguistics framework. Such an uses model instruction based on strata together with explicit teaching learning cycle to support reading writing. This article describes such principles from sfl were embedded into new early years school accompanying teachers principals that took place 2014–2016. The work offers potential other settings development non-community is critical students’ success schooling.
